The following table depicts the different file behaviors, for files originating in AssetWise ALIM versus ProjectWise:
Registration Mode File Behavior
Reference

(Recommended behavior)

  • Files that match the ProjectWiseNativeFileType and ProjectWiseNativeDocumentCopies settings integrate with ProjectWise.
  • The file physically resides in ProjectWise only.
  • The file does not need to be added to the AssetWise ALIM document prior to registering with ProjectWise.
  • A file that is added to an AssetWise ALIM document after registration with ProjectWise, is moved over to the pre-created ProjectWise document.
  • A file can be added to the ProjectWise document after it has been registered from AssetWise ALIM.
  • Any additional files added to the AssetWise ALIM document after the first file will physically remain only in AssetWise ALIM.

There will be two document topics:

  • Files = The is file stored in ProjectWise via the AssetWise ALIM ProjectWise Connector.
  • ProjectWise Locations = The link to the ProjectWise file location.
Note: Files registered with ProjectWise will always reside in ProjectWise.
Note: Documents can be registered either from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM or vice versa when using the "by reference" mode, however the file will still only reside in ProjectWise.
Important: Reference files are not supported when opening files from inside AssetWise ALIM. If your file has reference files associated with it, you must open the file in ProjectWise.
Copy and Link
  • The file physically resides in both AssetWise ALIM and ProjectWise.
  • The file gets synchronized when check in and check out actions occur from within AssetWise ALIM.
  • The file must exist on the AssetWise document before registering with ProjectWise.

There will be two document topics:

  • Files = the file stored in AssetWise via the AssetWise driver
  • ProjectWise Locations = the link to the ProjectWise file location.
Note: Documents can be registered either from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM or vice versa, when using the "copy and link" mode. The file resides in both ProjectWise and AssetWise ALIM.

For more information about defining these settings, see AssetWise ALIM ProjectWise Connector System Preferences.
